Concerned with the slow progress of negotiations for a new ballpark in Miami, Marlins executives took their search for a new home to Las Vegas this week -- angering Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and causing some to question if the move was a ploy to speed stadium talks in South Florida. Miami-Dade County officials, however, insisted Thursday that they're committed to completing a stadium deal in Miami and don't view the visit to Las Vegas as a blow to ongoing talks. The Marlins have not requested permission to relocate, said Major League Baseball President Bob DuPuy. Las Vegas was an unsuccessful suitor in the sweepstakes to lure the Montreal Expos.

An argument between Sheff and Bonds;
Yankees RF Gary Sheffield is appearing on the YES Network's "Centerstage" show with Michael Kay this Sunday, and on the show he discusses his role in baseball's steroid controversy. Sheffield tells Kay that Barry Bonds introduced him to the people at the Balco laboratories when Sheffield went out to the Bay Area to work out with Bonds in the off-season a few years ago, and that Sheffield didn't know the "cream" he was using on his knees was an illegal steroid. He claims he's so angry at Bonds that Bonds is no longer the godfather of Sheffield's son.

The Marlins aren't gonna go to Vegas... they're being played to get a deal done in Miami, kinda like how teams used to do with D.C., Drayton tried that when he wanted a new stadium and Houston bought it after the Oilers left.
